Sidikalang, Britishcourse.com – The Head of the National Library (Perpusnas), Muhammad Syarif Bando handed over the assistance of a mobile library car (MPK) as well as inaugurated a digital reading corner (Pocadi) for Dairi Regency, North Sumatra, Wednesday (23/2/2021). The symbolic handover of one MPK unit was received by the Regent of Dairi, Eddy Keleng Ate Berutu and witnessed by a member of Commission X DPR, Djohar Arifin Husin.
In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Library of Indonesia and the Dairi Regency Government (Pemkab) and the Toba Regency Government and four universities in North Sumatra.
Syarif Bando said that the role of libraries is currently experiencing a paradigm shift. “One of the definitions of a library is a place to find solutions to eradicate the shackles of ignorance and poverty in society. Reading and libraries are ways to increase knowledge and prosperity,” he said.
Pocadi, said Syarif Bando, is one of the National Library’s efforts to increase the economic value of local products. Therefore, it is hoped that the recipients of Pocadi’s aid will be able to display local products that are superior to their regions. “Pocadi is indeed small, but it will become the center of the world’s eyes, if all our local products have entered there,” he said.
Meanwhile, Djohar Arifin assessed that Dairi Regency deserved MPK and Pocadi assistance. According to the legislator from the Sumatra II electoral district, Eddy Keleng is a regional head who has high concern for education and literacy. Through policies and management regarding knowledgeable reading interest, it is believed that the Dairi community will excel in all fields.
“Therefore, we choose properly which one is appropriate. We prioritize Dairi. We are increasingly convinced that the people of Dairi under his leadership will be able to greatly benefit from advances in information and reading technology, with the spirit of literacy,” he explained.
Djohar also suggested that Dairi Regency build an ulos museum. The reason is, Dairi has been known as the center of Batak ulos. “The Ulos Museum can be a tourist attraction for Dairi. So from the outside world, want to know about Ulos, please come to Dairi. So we are sure people will come,” he concluded.
