Jokowi said the toll road, which is part of the Java toll road network, the North Coast of Java corridor, would later connect Semarang, Demak, Rembang, Tuban, and Gresik.
“The Gresik-Surabaya segment has been connected to the toll road and has been operated,” he said.
The Semarang-Demak Toll Road as a whole will have a length of 26.7 kilometers and consists of a 10.39-kilometer Kaligawe-Sayung section which is planned to start construction in January 2022 and a 16.31-kilometer Sayung-Demak section which is currently undergoing the construction process. completed in 2022.
According to Jokowi, after the toll road construction is completed, it is hoped that it will have implications for significantly reducing traffic congestion that usually occurs to and from Kaligawe and Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang City.
“This has been jammed for decades, either because of the large vehicles that all pass on this route,” he said.
In addition, the construction of the toll road that passes through the coastal area of Semarang will later also integrate a sea wall which will prevent the entry of sea water into the surrounding residential areas.
So, in addition to connecting transportation routes between Semarang and Demak, the existence of the embankment can provide benefits for coastal communities which is the first thing that has just been done in the construction of toll roads in Indonesia.
“The specialty of this toll road is that it is multifunctional. In addition to improving connectivity, the section I Semarang-Demak toll road will function as tidal flood control with the function of a retention pond and a sea dike,” he said

“As we see now, what is still submerged will eventually dry up and can be used both for industrial areas and their supporters as well as new economic growth centers,” he said.
From January to May 2021, the development project has absorbed 2,604 labor-intensive workers with a budget of Rp 1,436,013,572, so that it can provide economic benefits for the community around the project area.
