According to a February 4 court statement, Wang filed a claim for additional compensation for domestic work and child care.
The court found that Wang had indeed taken on more household responsibilities. She must receive 50,000 yuan (US $ 7,700 or Rp. 108 million) plus custody of a single child and an additional 2,000 yuan (Rp. 4.37 million) monthly allowance.
Initially, Wang asked for compensation worth 160,000 yuan (Rp.350 million). But after local media reported this week that Wang’s efforts to appeal the verdict sparked an online debate over the value of unpaid female domestic workers.
